Description
Inscribed "GEO W. SHOW / 1771" (identified with George Show, a resident of Washington Co., Maryland and by family tradition used by him in War of 1812) with no further decoration; cow horn with carved mouth, the butt with turned wooden cap secured with brads, centering an iron staple for suspension, with carved wood stopper, 11 1/4 in. L.
Provenance: From the estate of a Maryland collector. Purchased from W. Guthman in 1995. With collection tag of Dr. George McCauley, Hagerstown, Md., dated 1903. With copies of relevant documents and research.
