Description
Inscribed "PHILO: SPARY / [17]77" (identified with Philo Sperry, 1754-1812, of New Haven, Ct., documented as a member of the frigate Trumbull's crew) further engraved with three churches (identified as structures on New Haven green), a merman holding a trident, a sea serpent, various fish, and a large stylized plant; cow horn, thinned and engrailed toward the spout, with wooden butt cap centering a rose head nail, 12 3/8 in. L.

Condition
Horn appears to have been shortened at the butt by about an inch during the period of active use. An old crack extends over most of the length of the horn
