Item Details
Description
For your consideration are five owner's manuals & part catalogs presented by The Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company in Buffalo, New York circa 1924-1938. From 1901 until 1938, the Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company was an American luxury car manufacturer. The Buffalo, New York-based business was well-known for creating some of the most elegant and superior automobiles of its day. George N. Pierce established Pierce-Arrow, first establishing the business as a bicycle manufacturer in the late 1800s. In 1901, the company moved into the automobile business, and by the early 1910s, Pierce-Arrow was regarded as one of the top producers of luxury cars in the US. Even though Pierce-Arrow was up against more competition from other luxury car makers in the early 1920s, the brand was still associated with excellence and craftsmanship. Pierce-Arrow automobiles were highly sought after by the affluent elite and notable people of the era due to their innovative engineering, potent engines, and exquisite designs. However, Pierce-Arrow's sales were severely impacted by the Great Depression of the 1930s, which resulted in the company's financial difficulties. The business found it difficult to remain afloat even with attempts to offer more reasonably priced models. For one of the most prominent automakers in America, Pierce-Arrow's 1938 production stop signaled the end of an era. The pieces in this collection are as follows: "Pierce-Arrow Motor Cars Operation & Care Nos. 8101001", "Pierce-Arrow Straight Eight Operation & Care Models 41, 42 and 43", "Pierce-Arrow Motor Cars Care & Operation No. 339001", "Parts Catalog Series 36 Passenger Car No. 206" and "Parts Catalog Pierce-Arrow Passenger Car No. 203". The manuals give in depth write ups and explanations on how to care for, repair and keep your vehicle running, complete with illustrations and photos. The catalogs give an extensive list of car parts for various models of Pierce-Arrow cars with prices included. One catalog features a typed letter from 1944 from Pierce-Arrow to Ludwig Garage in Great Falls, Montana. The letter tells Ludwig Garage that they have the parts they are looking for, but should be wise to stock up as the company was liquidating their products very quickly. The pieces in this collection show good condition overall with wear present from their age and use over the years, no obvious signs of damage are noted. The pieces measure from 8 5/8" L x 5 3/4" W x 3/16" D to 10 7/16" L x 8 1/4" W x 5/8" D. The pieces have a collective weight of 3 pounds and 6 ounces.
