Carved folk art cane by Thomas Jefferson Craddock, (b. circa 1849) a Civil War veteran who carved and sold his wares at Jefferson's Tomb at Monticello. The cane is carved over every inch and includes an eagle with American flags, the University of Virginia Rotunda building, Jefferson's tomb, birds, fish, rabbits, laurel leaves, horse shoe, diamonds, and the words: "Jeffersons Century Cane 1900, University VA, Rotunda UVA Burnt Sunday, Oct. 27, 1895, 1896 Jefferson's Tomb, Thos. Jefferson of VA Born Apr. 9 1743, Was President, USA 1801 To 1809, Wrote Declaration of Independence 1776, Founder, University of VA, 1819, Died July 1826, This Cane Was Cut Near Jefferson's Tomb, Monticello, VA.
