Description
Oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman with brown eyes and a thoughtful gaze, in white cravat with black ribbon. Stencil on back of canvas: "TB 7 43 3/4 BROWN 163 HIGH HOLBORN LONDON", for artists supplier Thomas Brown, with date mark for July 1843. Thomas Brown was the preferred supplier to many important British artists including Thomas Lawrence, John Constable, J.M.W. Turner, Edwin Landseer, Thomas Sully (when in London,) and many more. Portrait is illegibly signed lower right. Period gilt frame with label to verso for Lambert and Co, 100 Knightsbridge SW.., Picture frame Manufacturers, carvers, gilders, print sellers, (etc.) Minor damage, losses, to frame. Sight, approx 24" x 29 1/2". Frame, approx. 34" x 39"
