Carved wooden folk art cane or walking stick, decorated with biographical information pertaining to Thomas Jefferson, animals, fauna, and a Masonic square and compass, the text reading, "Thos. Jefferson Of VA. Born Apr 13, 1743 Was President.USA. 1801 To 1809 Wrote Declaration Of Independence Founder/Of University VA. 1819/Died July 4 1821 This/ Cane Was Cut Near/Jeffersons Tomb/Jefferson.Dying. Words/I Resign My Spirit To/God. My Daughter/To My Country". Unsigned. Note: Craddock, a veteran of the Civil War, supported himself by carving canes in tribute to Thomas Jefferson near the third president's tomb. Approx. length, 36.25"
