An original election ballot for the 1860 election, which features Abraham Lincoln at the top of the Republican ticket. Printed in Ohio, the ballot also lists the various candidates for local seats. This is an excellent example of the paper ballot system of the 19th century, made more important by the presence of Abraham Lincoln’s name printed boldly across the top. Lincoln would go on to defeat three other candidates, narrowly winning the presidency via an electoral majority comprised of only Northern electoral votes. Hamlin, listed here as the Vice Presidential candidate, would eventually be replaced for Lincoln’s 1864 re-election bid. Ballot is in good condition, with some old folds and wear, but is entirely legible and displays well. Measures 6 x 4 inches.
