**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu / Inca culture, ca. 1200 to 1400 CE. A finely-constructed textile tump line - a sling used to aid in carrying large jars using the head to take most of the weight - comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of fuchsia, tan, and espresso. The wide central panel is decorated with 8 abstract avian figures outlined in black, and the cords extending from either side are braided with several sections of alternating bi-chrome schema. A very fine example! Custom display frame included. Size (textile): 122.5" L x 0.9" W (311.2 cm x 2.3 cm); size (frame): 10.125" W x 16.2" H (25.7 cm x 41.1 cm).
Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s

Light fraying to some fibers and fading to some colored areas, otherwise intact and very good. Frame mounted with metal wire for vertical display.
