**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu / Inca culture, ca. 1200 to 1400 CE. A finely-constructed textile sling (known as a "honda") comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of chocolate, cream, crimson, cobalt, and wheat. The main body of the sling has an ovoid projectile holder decorated with alternating columns of red-and-yellow as well as blue-and-white stepped motifs, and the tops of each blue-and-white column exhibits a brown-and-white stepped square. Thick cords extend from each corner of the main body and alternate between brown and white hues until reaching their tapered terminals. Size: 75.5" L x 2.3" W (191.8 cm x 5.8 cm).

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
