Description
Roman Empire, Imperial Period, Roman Holy Land, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A group of ten mold-made terracotta oil-burning vessels from the Roman-occupied Holy Land. Six of the lamps have a spade-shaped profile and two lamps are circular, both styles being characteristic of Holy Land vessels. The remaining two have thick walls, broad handles, and cross motifs in the neck channel, a style indicative of late Roman to early Byzantine design. Each lamp has a handle (whether cone-shaped or broad and flat), wide fill holes, small wick spouts, and stable bases. A wonderful ensemble for well-versed and novice collectors alike! Size: 4.5" L x 2.875" W x 1.75" H (11.4 cm x 7.3 cm x 4.4 cm).
