Roman, Imperial Period, Holy Land, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. Two wonderful mold-made terracotta oil-burning vessels from the Roman Holy Land. First is a light-orange lamp with a ringed base, sloping walls, rounded shoulders with low-relief floral designs, a nubbin-shaped thumb rest, a wide fill hole, and a minute wick spout. The neck channel boasts a cross enclosed in a circle, making this an early representation of Christian iconography. Second is a light-brown lamp with a slight concave base, a rounded, rhombus-shaped body with intricate low-relief patterns, a tab-shaped thumb rest, and a large fill hole. Both vessels are stylish examples from the Roman Holy Land! Size of largest (light-brown): 3.5" L (8.9 cm).

Condition
Light-orange lamp has stable hairline fissure on shoulder near fill hole. Both items have expected surface wear commensurate with age and use, light char marks to wick spouts, small nicks and chips to designs and peripheries, otherwise intact and very good.
