Roman Empire, Imperial Period, Holy Land - Sebaste, Israel, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. This heavy terracotta vessel is comprised of an oblong and flat circular base, misshapen sides, sharply-angled shoulders, a large tab-shaped handle with a raised linear pattern, a wide fill hole surrounded by a raised pseudo-pointillist design, a narrow neck channel and a large wick spout. Size: 4.25" L x 2.25" W x 1.375" H (10.8 cm x 5.7 cm x 3.5 cm).
Provenance: private Ventura, California, USA collection acquired before 1980

Condition
Repaired from several pieces, losses to shoulders, wick spout, and handle, heavy char marks to wick spout, and mineral deposits throughout. Fragments of loss still contained inside body cavity.
