**First Time At Auction**
Roman, late Roman to early Byzantine, ca. 4th to 5th century CE. A lovely collection of four mold-made terracotta oil lamps. First is a light-orange lamp with a ring base and illegible planta pedis (maker's mark), a recessed tondo, and a protruding wick spout with two tendril-form adornments. Second is a simple orange lamp with a flat base, wide fill hole, and a curved wick spout. Third is a light-gray lamp with a ring base, sloping shoulders with laurel vine details in low-relief, a tab-shaped thumb rest, and a raised cross inside a narrow neck channel. Last is a saucer-shaped lamp with a ring base, sharply-angled sides, a ladder-like motif traversing sloping shoulders, a nubbin-shaped handle, and a petite wick spout. A fabulous ensemble stemming from one of the most significant transitional periods in antiquity! Size of largest (light-orange): 3.75" L (9.5 cm).

Condition
All lamps have age-commensurate surface wear, small chips to handles and along peripheries, with light earthen and mineral deposits throughout. Two lamps have light char marks to wick spouts.
