Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman, Eastern Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A fine gathering of 11 mold-formed pottery oil lamps. One lamp has a discoid body with an incised zoomorph within the tondo, and another features stippling surrounding the shoulder in front of a conical handle. One lamp displays crucifixes near the wick spout and inside the tondo, and another lamp features raised circles around the shoulder as well as a square surrounding the fill hole. One lamp exhibits deep red pigment, and another lamp has lateral protrusions flanking the wick spout. Two lamps have sloped shoulders and tab-shaped handles, and three remaining lamps have wide, thick handles. Size of largest: 4.375" L x 2.375" W (11.1 cm x 6 cm)
Provenance: private New Jersey USA collection, acquired prior to 2000

Condition
All items have nicks and abrasions, with fading to original pigment, char marks to wick spouts, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
