Roman, Eastern Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. An ensemble of five redware mold-formed pottery oil lamps of varying shapes. One is slipper shaped with sloped shoulders, a recessed fill hole, a circular base, a protruding rounded spout, a tab-shaped handle, and is intricately decorated with a wreath pattern, two cherubic faces, and two volutes. Another is of a rich red hue with an ovoid base, a projecting arrow-shaped spout, a recessed fill hole, and sloped shoulders adorned with slanted grooves. Three lamps have discoid shapes with looped handles, large fill holes, and pointed spouts. Of these, two exhibit sloped shoulders, recessed fill holes, and circular bases. The other has a thin lipped rim with an applied bulbous fill hole. An excellent group of Roman oil lamps! Size of largest: 4.25" L x 3.5" W x 2.125" H (10.8 cm x 8.9 cm x 5.4 cm)

Two discoid lamps have repaired handles. Lamp with the arrow shaped spout has restoration to area where original handle base was. Four have char marks on spout as shown. Surface wear with chips/nicks and abraded areas due to age and/or use. Lovely earthen deposits throughout.
