Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine pottery oinochoe, a pouring vessel, with areas of black glaze, though some misfired and unglazed areas make for contrasting buff and red hues. The vessel sits upon a ring base, and the body gently swells outward with fluted ribbing that runs vertically around the exterior from base to shoulder. The neck rises up to a slightly flared lip; the handle joins the vessel's shoulder to lip, and the rim leads into the deep interior cavity. A wonderfully balanced vessel that has a very elegant shape. Size: 4.5" W x 6.25" H (11.4 cm x 15.9 cm)
