Description
**Originally Listed At $800**
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to early 5th century CE. A mold-formed pottery oil lamp of an intricate form boasting a pair of projecting wick spouts. The lamp features a flat base and rounded walls, several thin rings around the shoulder, a fill hole within the recessed tondo, two petite vent holes, a pair of spiral-tipped volutes flanking each neck, and a rounded triangular wick spout. Within the tondo are two semicircular branches with hemispherical upper bulbs and a pair of stylized phytomorphic pods on each lower end. Double-spouted oil lamps like this example are exceedingly rare when made from pottery due to the complexity of the design in conjunction with the fragility of the material.
