Description
Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A petite mold-made terracotta oil-burning vessel with a flat circular base with a planta pedis (maker's mark), wide sides, rounded shoulders, a round and pierced handle, and a protruding wick spout with two flared designs on either side of neck channel. The recessed tondo features a depiction of a satyr, a horned forest-dwelling entity with the body of a man and lower features of a goat. Dionysus's male companions, satyrs loved wine and women, and were ready for - and associated with - pleasure. Lucite display stand not included. Size: 4" L x 2.6" W x 1.375" H (10.2 cm x 6.6 cm x 3.5 cm).
