Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous, mold-formed pottery oil lamp of a sizable form with a flat base, gradually expanding walls, a rounded shoulder, a pierced handle on the back end, a large fill hole within the recessed tondo, and a rounded wick spout. The shoulder is adorned with a register of repeating semicircles, and the tondo is decorated with a flower petal motif. Size: 4.3" W x 2.125" H (10.9 cm x 5.4 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired in 2002; ex-Venus Gallery, Israel

Repairs to areas of handle, wick spout, and tondo surface, with light resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to handle and base, with softening to some finer details, and light encrustations. Light earthen deposits throughout.
