Description
Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE, found in western Turkey. Very fine classic Roman pottery oil lamp. Rounded body and openwork handle, short spout. Top decorated with eagle, wings spread. The eagle was the military symbol of Rome's military might and far reaching empire. Base molded with Planta Pedis foot, the sign of a well-known lamp maker of the day. Size: 4" L (10.2 cm)
