Brian Close John Player League runners-up cricket medals for 1974 and 1976, the obverse of both struck with a stylised bowler and inscribed THE JOHN PLAYER LEAGUE, the first inscribed RUNNERS-UP, D.B. CLOSE, 1974, the other RUNNER-UP, D.B. CLOSE, CBE, 1976, both in original case of issue These medals relate to Close's latter career spell at Somerset CCC. In 1976 five teams ended the season on 40 points. Kent were awarded the title with the superior run-rate. Provenance: The Brian Close Collection. Graham Budd Auctions 9th June 2004, lot 98.
