Fourth-quarter 19th Century, Fort Wingate, New Mexico Territory
Woven red field of American flannel, with four columns of yellow, green and red crosses, side elements in cream and indigo blue with other geometric cochineal red and yellow floating elements throughout

Provenance: By repute, Fort Wingate, New Mexico Territory

Exhibitions: Centennial Exposition 1876

Notes: Dye samples were sent to Dr. David Wenger, Ph.D., of Thomas Jefferson University for testing. Dr. Wenger found that the blue sample was dyed with indigo and trace amounts of indigo are found in the green samples. The red/ burgundy samples were dyed with cochineal dyes and lighter reds are synthetic. The dye test results dated 9/25/2019 will be included with the lot.
Condition
Overall good condition commensurate with age and use. Some sections of selvage edge either detached or separating from body, Largest section 1.5'' L. Intrinsic unevenness to red dye.
