Description
Ancient Greece, Mycenaean, ca. 1500 BCE. A wheel-made pottery stirrup jar of a classic Mycenaean form with a bulbous body, a flat foot, conjoined twin handles, and a side spout. The vessel is hand painted with encircling bands in hues of russet red-brown, repeated frets on the handles, repeated chevrons on the shoulder, and a concentric circular pattern on the top pendant - all on a creamy beige ground. An extremely fine example from approximately 1500 BCE, when Mycenae was at its peak of influence! Size: 8.375" in diameter x 7.5" H (21.3 cm x 19 cm)
