Southeast Asian, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE. A very large bichrome pottery storage vessel of a globular round-bottomed form with an elegant neck that resolves to a dramatically flaring rim, all finely decorated in a vermilion red on creamy off-white ground with a mesmerizing program comprised of interlocking curvilinear and striated motifs on the lower body, a stylized leaf/petal or feather motif on the neck and register beneath the body, and a beautiful blend of both motifs on the flared section of the neck and rim - the three sections separated via linear bands. A stunning and very large example replete with the attractive swirls and waves characteristic of this culture. Size: 10" W x 12.5" H (25.4 cm x 31.8 cm)
