Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok or Sukhothai, Ayutthaya Period, ca. 17th to early 18th century CE. A beautiful stoneware teapot with floral patterns and a zoomorphic spout. The globular vessel rests on a ring base and has a squat neck that leads into the hollow interior. The surface is painted in hues of mocha, caramel, and cream and has been decoratively incised and glazed with a beautiful vegetal pattern comprised of swirling vines and leaves. The head of the dragon forms the spout, and the front legs arch to either side to create suspension loops. The curved, scaly body forms the tall handle which connects to the opposite side with a curved tail and the hind legs. A matching lid completes this marvelous and unique vessel! Size: 9.25" L x 6.875" W x 9.25" H (23.5 cm x 17.5 cm x 23.5 cm)
