Description
**First Time At Auction**
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Sawankalok) culture, Sukhothai Period, ca. 14th to 16th century CE. A robust hand-built pottery jar covered in a thick mottled brown glaze. The vessel features high tapered shoulders, a squat neck, and flared lip. Its upper register has been lightly incised with several narrow circular bands which encircle it entirely at the base and top portion of its shoulders section. Its surface is a wonderful dark brown, with a green tint. Glaze was allowed to drip over the vessel freely, creating a drip effect around the vessel's base. A well-constructed vessel sure to last many more lifetimes! Size: 7.6" W x 9.25" H (19.3 cm x 23.5 cm)
Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA
