Description
**First Time At Auction**
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Sawankalok) culture, Sukhothai Period, ca. 15th century CE. An absolutely gorgeous pottery jar featuring elegantly painted leaves, feathery chrysanthemums, and a pair of jubilant fishes atop a khaki yellow ground. The vessel's piriform body presents with a rounded base atop a flat discoidal foot. At its top, the vessel opens through a slightly flared lip that is seamlessly joined to a gently corseted neck. A light craquelure covers the entirety of the surface. A well-preserved example with an inspiring presence, and shade of cream that reflects nicely in the light. Size: 4.25" W x 8" H (10.8 cm x 20.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA
