Description
Southeast Asian, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE. A beautiful bichrome pottery storage vessel, the rounded body remarkably resembing a near perfect sphere with a short neck and gently flared rim, all decorated in red over off-white ground, the body with two large abstract eye-shaped designs filled in with mesmerizing swirls and striations as is characteristic of Ban Chiang pottery. Above this, a register of repeated stylized wings (petals or feathers). A remarkable example, quite striking for its form and painted decorative program. Size: 9.75" in diameter x 9.5" H (24.8 cm x 24.1 cm)
