Description
Ancient Greece, Mycenaean, ca. 1500 BCE. A wheel-made pottery stirrup jar of a classic Mycenaean form with a bulbous body, a raised ring foot, conjoined twin handles, and a side spout. The vessel is comprised of buff clay painted with encircling bands in hues of black and russet red-brown, a repeated zigzag motif between the handles on one side, rainbow-like motifs flanking the side spout, and a concentric circular pattern on the top pendant between the handles. An extremely fine example from approximately 1500 BCE, when Mycenae was at its peak of influence! Size: 3.5" in diameter x 3.625" H (8.9 cm x 9.2 cm)
