Description
Greek, South Italic, Magna Graecia, probably Apulia, ca. 3rd century BCE. Very large pottery storage jar of bulbous form. Body decorated in four sections with applied slip just prior to firing. Lowest section all black with laurel leaves then circling the body. Another black band is below two large fields of palmettes, handles to each side. Not the most refined of all Greek vases we have seen, but a lot of Greek pottery for the money! Size: 10" W x 14.5" H (25.4 cm x 36.8 cm)
