Item Details
Description
Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulia or Campania, ca. 4th century BCE. Greek wine cup on short foot with twin horizontal handles, impressed upper shoulder. Fascinating surface as the piece must have been misfired. Though intended to appear as blackware, areas that were likely covered by other works in the kiln were not oxidized. Hence we see a lovely combination of both red and black hues. Size: 7-1/2" x 1-3/4" (19.1 x 4.4 cm).
