Description
HANDWRITTEN SLAVE DOCUMENT-- dated Jan. 30, 1849, 8" X 12.5"-- from the estate of ROBERT PRYOR, an early settler in Georgia's Sumter County. This document provided to Robert Pryor's son, two daughters and brother Spencer an equal distribution of Pryor's estate: 17 'first-name only' Negro slaves + their offspring, a few mules, and cash distribution realized from the sale of Pryor's land.

HANDWRITTEN SLAVE DEED-- dated March 10, 1858, 5.5" x 8"-- from the estate of ERASMUS CULPEPPER JR. Erasmus Culpepper, Jr. migrated to Lower Peachtree, Wilcox Co., Alabama from Nash County, N. Carolina. Culpepper, Jr. died in 1855 and his estate went into probate. The deed allocated 5 slaves to his daughter, Mrs. Harriette Pate. "...Rec’d of Erasmus Culpepper Jr.---deed the following named Negroes---to Mrs. Harriett Pate wife of J. F. Pate,---belonging to said Estate to wit---valued at Four Thousand five Hundred Dollars".
