First Edition Book Set "Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant"
1885 & 1886-Dated, (ULYSSES S. GRANT), His First Edition Book entitled, "Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant," in Two Volumes, Complete, Hardcover, New York: Charles Webster, Choice Very Fine.
These two volumes have 584 and 647 pages respectively, measure 9.5" x 6.5" and are rebound ina lovely full tan leather with a red leather and with gilt spine labels. They are Illustrated with maps and facsimiles. There is a small waterstain on frontis of both volumes which shows faintly at lower right edge of title pages. Name of first owner inscribed in both volumes. Mark Twain was the publisher of Grant's memoirs which he finished on July 18, 1885, just five days before his death, having achieved his goal of providing for his family's financial future. A fine full set in custom covers that is always in great collector demand.
