Una copia veramente bella, grande e nitida, riccamente illustrata con 67 belle xilografie, in coloritura coeva talune lumeggiate in oro. Due diverse note manoscritte di possesso e alcune note marginali. Bellâ€™esemplare marginato e colorato.
Seconda delle quattro edizioni stampate da Ratdolt. Il Fasciculus temporum Ã¨ stata la prima cronaca del mondo stampata e si proponeva di offrire ai lettori una panoramica completa della storia dellâ€™umanitÃ : la cronologia segue una doppia linea temporale, misurando il tempo sia dalla creazione che dalla nascita di Cristo, richiedendo un layout tipografico straordinariamente complesso. L'opera fu immensamente popolare, essendo stata stampata 32 volte nel XV secolo, comprese le traduzioni in francese, tedesco e olandese. Splendido lâ€™apparato iconografico con molte vedute di cittÃ e con la prima raffigurazione di Venezia vista dal Canal Grande. Folio, mm.315 x 214, binding with wood board on covers and leather on spine. Leaves 8, first blank, 64; A-L8 (A1 missing blank), text on two columns, 58 lines for page. A nice copy, large and sharp, richly illustrated with 67 nice contemporary colored woodcuts with some golden highlights. Two different handwritten notes and some marginal notes. Very nice colored specimen with wide margins.
Second of the four editions printed by Ratdolt. The Fasciculus temporum was the world's first printed chronicle and aimed to offer readers a comprehensive overview of the history of mankind: the chronology follows a double time-line, measuring time from both the Creation and the birth of Christ, demanding a remarkably complex typographical layout. The work was immensely popular, being printed 32 times in the 15th century, including translations into French, German and Dutch. The iconographic apparatus is splendid with many views of the city and the first representation of Venice seen from the Grand Canal. The German printer Erhard Ratdolt was an innovator in the layout of the sheets, in fact, instead of printing a "guide letter" in the center of a large empty space reserved for the manual indexing of the initials, he used richly decorated woodcuts. "Originally from Augusta, Ratdolt went to Venice, which was then the most important publishing center in Europe" (Alvarez)
