Description
1489 St Augustine City of God Incunabula Philosophy Existence God Waleys Trivet
Augustine of Hippo was a 5th-century early Christian church philosopher and theologian. He is most known for his work ‘City of God’. ‘City of God’ was a response to the assertions that the rise of Christianity was the cause of the decline of Rome. In this work, Augustine discusses the existence of God and evil, an all-knowing God, original sin, and Christian doctrines. Augustine sought to denounce much of the magic and pagan worship that was rampant throughout the known world.
This work is a stunning excerpt from the 1489 Incunabula printing of ‘City of God’. This work features the commentary of 13th- and 14th-century Dominican friars Thomas Waleys and Nicolas Trivet.
