Prima edizione. Dedicata a Borso d’Este, il De caelesti vita è un’opera filosofica e teologica scritta intorno al 1450. L’incunabolo si compone di quattro trattati: De natura animae rationalis; De immortalitate animae; De inferno et cruciato animae; De paradyso et felicitate animae. Il testo è costellato di riferimenti eruditi ai filosofi della Grecia classica: Socrate, Aristotele, Zenone, Epicuro e, sopra tutti, Platone, così come agli scritti apocrifi che allora circolavano sotto i nomi di Ermete Trimegisto, Zoroastro, Orfeo, e Pitagora. Numerosi sono i riferimenti anche agli autori latini, ai primi Padri della Chiesa, ai filosofi medievali arabi e latini: Seneca e Marco Aurelio, Origene e s. Agostino, Alburnasur e Avicenna, Duns Scoto e Tommaso d'Aquino. Giovanni da Ferrara combatte l’interpretazione astrologica dell’origine del mondo, e critica la dottrina di Averroè sull’unità dell’intelletto in tutti gli uomini, che aveva avuto ampia eco fra i filosofi aristotelici a partire dal XIII secolo. Secondo BMC esistono due tirature dell’incunabolo: questa, conforme all’esemplare censito in Iccu, è la tiratura nella variante con differenze nel titolo, alla prima linea della carta 9 e nel colophon. First edition. Dedicated to Borso d'Este, De caelesti Vita is a philosophical and theological work written around 1450. The incunabulum consists of four treatises: De natura animae rationalis; De immortalitate animae; De inferno et de cruciate animae; Paradyso De felicitate et animae. The text is full of erudite references to philosophers of classical Greece: Socrates, Aristotle, Zeno, Epicurus and, above all, Plato, as well as the apocryphal writings which then circulated under the names of Hermes Trismegistus, Zoroaster, Orpheus, and Pythagoras. Many are also references to Latin authors, the early Fathers of the Church, to the Arab and Latin medieval philosophers Seneca and Marcus Aurelius, Origen and s. Augustine, Alburnasur and Avicenna, Duns Scotus and Thomas Aquinas. Giovanni of Ferrara fights the astrological interpretation of the origin of the world, and criticizes the doctrine of Averroes on the unit of intellect in all men, who had had great clamor between the Aristotelian philosophers since the thirteenth century. According to BMC, there are two issues of this incunabulum: this, which conforms to a census in the ICCU, is the circulation in the variant with differences in the title, the first line of the paper 9 and the colophon.
