Sanford B. Dole (1844-1926) was a descendent of Christian missionaries living in the Kingdom of Hawaii, and would later become one of the main drafters of the 1887 Bayonet Constitution which would turn the current monarchy into puppets of a pro-annexation group known as the Committee of Safety. After the subsequent overthrow of Queen Lili'uokalani in 1893, Dole was named the first President of Hawaii until full annexation was reached in 1898. President McKinley later appointed him the first Territorial Governor- a role he served until 1903.
