T. Roosevelt Rare Signed White House Card
White House Card, elegantly signed by the 26th President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) as “Theodore Roosevelt”, in fountain pen, 4.125" x 2.75", Washington, circa 1901-1909. Adhesive residue and previous collector notes at verso. Toning and light wear, else very good condition.
White House Cards, or Executive Mansion Cards, were used by United States Presidents in the 19th and 20th century. They were the size of today's average business card, often containing a president's signature, and sometimes a short message or sentiment.
One month after taking office following William McKinley's assassination, Roosevelt changed the name of the presidential residence from “Executive Mansion”, which it had been popularly called since 1810, to “White House”. With this, he ordered the Presidential stationery to also bear the name "White House" (later "The White House"), as seen on the here offered signed card.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
