Description
Three-page 1836 last will and testament written by a man named Barrett Turner of Madison County. Kentucky. In his will, Turner says he would prefer if his slaves continued to work on his land instead of being hired out. He directs that his “trusty slave” Sam is not to be abused or sold, but that if any of the other slaves misbehave, that they may be sold. Turner states his desire for his youngest son to manage his property once he becomes of age, and lays out other stipulations in this signed document.
