Description
Three page 1861 estate document executed in Bourbon County, Kentucky, that appraises and divides eleven named slaves including children. Their names and ages, as listed, are: Farron (42), Fern (28), Sammey (23), Jim (19), King (27), Harriet (33), Anne (31), Salle(11), Fern (8), Henry (14), and Moses (8). In the document, the slaves are valued and distributed to new owners pursuant to the will of a man named William Wheat, their former master. It is unknown whether the enslaved men, women, and children listed were members of the same family, but it seems likely. Their separation is a devastating outcome to consider.Â
