Description
Three-page court document copy from Roane County, Tennessee dated 1848 that relates to the emancipation of Jesse and Mary Carter, a married couple that was enslaved but set free upon the death of their master, Elizabeth Carter. The case details a bond payment and describes the couple, as well as another man, as emancipated in 1833.
The original document bore Jesse and Mary’s “x” mark signatures, which are transcribed in this court copy.
