Description
Unusual document written in 1826 by the heirs of Sarah Thompson of Lincoln County, Kentucky, who died "interstate" sometime prior to this signed pact. In the "Article of Agreement," the heirs designate two estate executors to sell slaves Ben and Rose, formerly owned by Sarah Thompson. The proceeds of the sale are to be fairly apportioned to the heirs.
At the end of document the heirs write, "It is also understood there is an old Negro woman named Sarah belonging to said estate, who [sic] is old and infirm and which we do agree to support during her life by an equal contribution."
It has been suggested by the consignor that Sarah possibly assisted in raising the heirs, hence their desire to take care of her in old age.
