A very rare 3/4 figure with wonderfully stylized face and eyes and well handled and weathered surface. The Bakwa Luntu, who are of Luba origin, came from the Luba-Kasai region and their traditions have been strongly affected by both, the neighbouring Lulua, the Songye and Kuba peoples. Extremely rare on the market. The idol measures 13 inches tall ( 14 inches on wood base) Provenance: Ex Robert Reinhold collection, Ex Huetelet collection.
