Description
This is a Rare and important Metoko carved wooden and painted figure with highly stylized form and facial features. Statues of this type adorned the graves of dignitaries of the "Bukota", a secret society that played an important role among the Metoko. According to research an effigy such as this would temporarily received the soul of the deceased for the duration of the funeral ceremonies. The statue measures 34 inches tall. Provenance: Ex. J.
