Description
A very rare Luba or Kalanga carved wooden Staff top with metal ( aluminum) wrapped areas to protect the staff, what remains is stable. The staff top has extensive wear and erosion and is likely a late 19th century example of a very rare tradition. Luba peoples, Congo, Africa. The staff top measures 14 inches tall. The staff does not include a display stand, a stand was used in photography. Provenance: Ex Sol and Josephine Levitt, New York; Ex. J. Camp Gallery, NYC. 1985.
Condition
Fair, eroded. The staff top is well weathered.
