A very finely carved wooden Horse & Rider sculpture, a Chieftain shown with staff and a long headdress embellished with silver metal inlay. The sculpture of a Horseman is a symbol of power among the Yoruba and this is a particularly nice old example, likely late 19th or Early 20th century. The figure has a deep well handled surface patina. Yoruba peoples, Nigeria, Africa. The figure measures 17 inches / 18.5 inches tall on professional quality display stand. Provenance: Merton Simpson, New York, Ex Private Paris France collection.
