Description
A carved wooden female figure from the Yoruba peoples known as "Ere Ibeji" or Twin Idol. The mother of twins provides ritual care to such figures, bathing, dressing, adorning, and feeding them. Such daily handling is responsible for the well handled and smooth surface. This idol is adorned with glass beads and measures 11 inches tall. ( 12 inches tall on custom base) Provenance: From the collection of art historian Evan Maurer, co-author of Tabwa: The Rising of a New Moon & The Intelligence of Forms: An Artist Collects African Art.
