Description
A Boldly carved wooden helmet mask with conical eyes, pierced around their perimeters. The original faded pigmentation is still largely intact. Fine internal patina denoting traditional usage. Masks such as these are known as Mulwalwa and are produced by the southern Bushoong and Northern Kete peoples and represent a male Ngesh or nature spirit associated with initiation of young men to manhood. The mask measures 15 x 13 inches, not counting the hanging raffia grass. A display stand can also be included for an additional $50.00. Provenance: A Private New Jersey collection.
