Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885): Commanding General of the U.S. Army who would later become the 18th President of the United States from 1869 to 1877. Published by W.W. Hoyt's New York Gallery.
James Birdseye McPherson (1828-1864): Commander of the Army of the Tennessee beginning in 1864. He died in the Battle of Atlanta.
Joseph Hooker (1814-1879): Commander of the Army of the Potomac beginning in 1863.
William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891): Commander of the XV Corps beginning in 1863 and then commander of Army of the Tennessee from 1863 to 1864. Sherman led the Atlanta Campaign in 1864 before his March to the Sea. Published by John Holyland in 1865.
Winfield Scott Hancock (1824-1886): Commander of the II Corps beginning in 1863. Fought in the Battle of Gettysburg.
Philip Henry Sheridan (1831-1888): Commander of the Cavalry Corps of the Army of the Potomac beginning in 1864.
