40+ carte de visite portraits housed in a Civil War era photograph album. Most of the views are of civilian subjects with photographer's imprints from Chicago, Illinois, Springfield, Illinois, Kansas, and Michigan (though the majority of the cartes have not been inspected outside the album).

Featured CDV photographs include: Abraham Lincoln (Ostendorf 86b, Brady/Anthony imprint on verso), General William T. Sherman (Brady/Anthony imprint on verso), General Grenville Dodge (Davenport, Iowa photographer's imprint on verso), General U.S Grant (no photographer's imprint), a photo collage of 1867/68 Kansas State Senators (Kansas City, MO photographer's imprint on verso), and Mr./Mrs. Tom Thumb (Brady/Anthony imprint on verso).

The view of President Lincoln is scarce. Noted Lincoln scholar Lloyd Ostendorf referred to it as the "solitary pine" portrait, because it reminded him of a Francis Grierson quote describing Lincoln: "[Lincoln] rose from his seat, stretched his long, bony limbs upward as if to get them in working order, and stood like some solitary pine on a lonely summit." This portrait was taken by Matthew Brady on January 8th, 1864 in Washington D.C.

The 1867/68 session of the Kansas Senate is notable in many respects, but is perhaps best remembered for State Senator Samuel Pomeroy's introduction of a bill that would grant women the right to vote in Kansas. The bill was never voted on.

Interesting album that deserves further research.
